Revisiting temperature sensitivity: how does Antarctic precipitation change with temperature?

چکیده
Abstract. With progressing global warming, snowfall in Antarctica is expected to increase, which could counteract or even temporarily overcompensate increased ice-sheet mass losses caused by ice discharge and melting. For sea-level projections it therefore vital understand the processes determining changes Antarctica. Here we revisit relationship between Antarctic temperature precipitation changes, identifying explaining regional differences deviations from theoretical approach based on Clausius–Clapeyron relationship. Analysing latest estimates (CMIP6, Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6) (RACMO2.3) model projections, find an average increase of 5.5 % annual over per degree with a minimum sensitivity 2 K−1 near Siple Coast maximum > 10 at East plateau region. This large range can be explained prevailing climatic conditions, local temperatures that counteracted some regions prevalence coastal wind regime. We compare different approaches deriving factor, cases lead up 7 percentage points for same model. Importantly, factors are found strongly dependent warming level, suggesting models base their parameterisations derived these might overestimate warming-induced particularly high-emission scenarios. would have consequences this century beyond.

Precipitation, radiative forcing and global temperature change
[1] Radiative forcing is a useful tool for predicting equilibrium global temperature change. However, it is not so useful for predicting global precipitation changes, as changes in precipitation strongly depend on the climate change mechanism and how it perturbs the atmospheric and surface energy budgets. Here a suite of climate model experiments and radiative transfer calculations are used to ...
متن کاملClimate change scenarios for temperature and precipitation in Aragón (Spain).
By applying a two-step statistical downscaling technique to four climate models under different future emission scenarios, we produced future projections of the daily precipitation and the maximum and minimum temperatures over the Spanish region of Aragón. The reliability of the downscaling technique was assessed by a verification process involving the comparison of the downscaled reanalysis da...
متن کاملRegional precipitation and temperature scenarios for climate change
To investigate the consequences of climate change on the water budget in small catchments, it is necessary to know the change of local precipitation and temperature. General Circulation Models (GCM) cannot provide regional climate parameters yet, because of their coarse resolution and imprecise modelling of precipitation. Therefore downscaling of precipitation and temperature has to be carried ...
متن کاملSpatio-temporal trend and change detection of temperature and precipitation of Kashafroud basin
The study of meteorological characteristics and its variability is important in assessing the climate change impacts for water resources management. Trend analysis of hydrological and meteorological time series is a method for determining the change in climate variables that is performed with different parametric and non-parametric methods. In this research, the annual, seasonal and monthly tr...
متن کاملUncertainty Investigation of Precipitation and Temperature Scenarios for the Sira Basin under Climate Change Impact
Results of assessment of the future climate change impacts is associated with some uncertainties. Considering the range of uncertainties increases reliability of the results. In this study, climate change impacts on daily precipitation, maximum and minimum temperature of Sira basin are assessed using LARS-WG model, for 2036-65 period. Accordingly, uncertainty of new emissions scenarios (RCP2.6،...
